Current Mamelodi Sundowns FC manager Rhulani Mokwena has shared his own shocking view regarding the player of the season award in DSTV premier ship league that is set to be awarded at the end of the season.
Mokwena believes that there must be no arguements when choosing the right player who deserves the mentioned award. He also mentioned two players he believes one between them will take the award to his trophy cabinet. Fans were left shocked after realising that Mokwena is not mentioning Orlando Pirates FC current winger Monnapule Saleng.
Saleng is the left footed winger, however, he is among the top goalscorers in DStv premiership league. In all competitions, he has played twenty two matches, he scored thirteen goals and made six assists. This means he has contributed in nineteen goals that were scored by Pirates this season. Adding more on that, he has also scored a hattrick.
Mokwena believes that the award must be won by his number one goalkeeper Ronwern Williams or the midfielder Teboho Mokoena. Both players are former Supersport United players. They joined Sundowns before the 2022 / 2023 season start including Sipho Mbule.
More over, Sundowns FC faced Richards Bay on a league game where by Mamelodi Sundowns FC won 1-0. The cleansheet that was kept by Williams today, equalled former Bafana Bafana Moneeb Josephs clean sheet record. Both goalkeepers has managed to keep seventeen cleansheets in one season.
However, Williams has a chance to set himself a new record by keeping more cleansheets, since Mamelodi Sundowns FC have three games left before the season end.
Some of fans believe Orlando Pirates FC winger Monnapule Saleng is the right person to take the award. The former Swallows FC winger has been doing well this season. Apart from that, there are some wingers, who are also among the top goalscorers this season. The likes of Khanyisa Mayo of Capetown City and Junior Mendieta of Stellenbosch FC.
